With cold weather here for at least the next several months, those of us at Chase Pacific Property Management think that it’s a good time to have a professional checkup for your heating system. SDG&E is again offering a free checkup in which a qualified technician will visit your home or condo and make sure that the furnace is working safely. Mild San Diego weather means that furnaces are used sparingly and last a long time. When they are used, it’s very important to make sure that the unit is operating safely and efficiently. SDG&E will send out a technician at no charge to check on any gas operating appliance. During the 25 minute checkup, the technician is looking for proper ventilation, debris, soot and will make sure that the fire is burning “true blue”. A yellow flame indicates incomplete burning which can cause soot to accumulate and potentially cause fires. Ventilation problems can lead to carbon monoxide leaks, if air from the fire box mingles with air that is circulated throughout the home. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause drowsiness, nausea and death. SDG&E recommends annual furnace checks and provides them to about 30,000 customers each year. While SDG&E performs the checks, they do not perform and necessary repairs that they recommend. Each individual customer would need to use outside contractors at their own expense to do necessary work. Chase Pacific recommends that all of our tenants call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 today to make the appointment!
